Why I love Small Ship Cruises
Why I Love Small Ship Cruises
My appreciation for small ship cruising began long before I became a travel advisor. In my early twenties, I spent two years working aboard small ships and experienced firsthand what makes them so different from larger cruise vessels.
One of the greatest advantages of small ship cruising is access. Because of their size, small ships can visit ports, harbors, and coastal destinations that larger ships simply cannot reach. Instead of spending time in crowded terminals, guests often arrive directly in the heart of a destination.
I also appreciate the more personal atmosphere. With far fewer passengers on board, service feels attentive and genuine. Crew members quickly get to know guests, creating a more relaxed and welcoming experience throughout the journey.
Another reason I enjoy small ship cruising is the pace. The focus is not on endless onboard attractions, but rather on the destinations themselves. Travelers can spend more time exploring charming coastal towns, hidden coves, historic ports, and beautiful islands while enjoying the comfort of a boutique-style ship.
Because of their smaller size, these ships can often visit more ports and spend more time in the destinations themselves, creating a richer and more immersive travel experience.
Having experienced life aboard small ships from both sides—as crew and as a traveler—I continue to believe they offer one of the most rewarding ways to see the world. For travelers who value exceptional service, unique destinations, fewer crowds, and immersive experiences, small ship cruising remains one of my favorite ways to travel.
